Christians who keep Advent hear the wonderful prophecies of the High Priest who came to redeem our flesh and blood through the sacrifice of his own, and who will come again as King to judge the living and the dead for entrance into his eternal kingdom.
Their prince shall be one of themselves…
Then Pilate asked him, ‘Are you the king of the Jews?’ He answered, ‘You say so.’ (Luke 23:3 NRSV)
their ruler shall come out from their midst…
You Samaritans know very little about the one you worship, while we Jews know all about him, for salvation comes through the Jews. (John 4:22 NLT)
I will make him draw near, and he shall approach me, for who would dare of himself to approach me? declares the LORD.*
No one takes this honor upon himself but only when called by God, just as Aaron was. In the same way, it was not Christ who glorified himself in becoming high priest, but rather the one who said to him: “You are my son;this day I have begotten you” (Hebrews 5:4-5 NAB)
